Lock Haven, Pennsylvania is the county seat of Clinton County. It is found at the confluence of Bald Eagle Creek and the West Branch Susquehanna River, and as of 2010 the community was home to nearly 10,000 residents. Much of the region is served by the Keystone Central School District, and Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania offers undergraduate degree programs to approximately 4,500 college students.
Lock Haven is home to a variety of unique attractions and things to do. Wine enthusiasts may enjoy a trip to Schaefers Winery, while history buffs may like to check out the Piper Aviation Museum or the Clinton County Historical Society/Heisey Museum. Art enthusiasts might prefer an excursion to the Station Gallery, and performances are held at the Millbrook Playhouse Theater. During the summer, the Clinton County Raceway is quite busy, and the community also hosts a weekly Farm and Flea Market.
Outdoor recreation is also important to the Lock Haven community. The city is home to 14 parks and playgrounds, featuring skate parks, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a sand beach, and other amenities. The community also hosts a 25 mile trail hike and run known as the Bald Eagle Mountain Megatransect each year.
Lock Haven is part of a humid continental climate zone. The area is known for having hot summers with average high temperatures reaching the mid-80s in July. Record highs have reached over 105 degrees, so when these stifling conditions move into the area, residents will rely on their air conditioning units to stay comfortable.
Winters in Lock Haven are cold, and average high temperatures in January will reach the mid-30s.Annual snowfall totals will vary, but most years see less than a foot of accumulation. However, freezing rain and sleet are entirely possible, and when coupled with freezing conditions, residents will be pleased to have a heat pump or furnace available to keep them warm.
